Face shaving advice and tips for both men and women.

The first and foremost FACT: Face shaving with a wet razor
is NOT to even be considered by females. There are several
other forms of hair removal much more suitable for female
facial hair.

Okay - Now that we have that established, on with the facts
of shaving for a fabulous face.

For most males, face shaving represents entering adulthood,
a rite of passage, becoming a man. You anticipate shaving
for the first time and are quite excited about it when the
time comes.

If you're older now, face shaving is probably a part of
your daily grooming routine. And probably not so exciting
anymore.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

All you need to do is learn the facts about how to go about
shaving to get that fabulous face.

FACT: Most males shave their face first thing after they
get up in the morning.

FACT: As you sleep, body fluids puff up the surface of your
skin and hide the hairs so the razor can't get as close to
the hair follicle, (the skin depression from which the hair
emerges), when shaving.

So if you're serious about saving your skin guys, set your
alarm clock about 30 minutes earlier to allow yourself time
to delay your morning shave. Or if your morning routine
includes exercising, do that first and then shower.

FACT: Sweat is quite acidic and will greatly irritate your
skin after shaving.

ALWAYS moisturize your face before shaving with a wet
razor. Never shave dry.

FACT: Dry hair is tough and will break more easily, leaving
jagged tips on hairs which only irritate the skin more.

Take a shower if it's convenient. In fact, shave in the
shower if you can.

FACT: The steam will open the follicles and make hairs much
softer and/so easier to shave. It's suggested you allow your
skin to be wet for at least 5-10 minutes before you begin
shaving.

Apply whatever you prefer to lubricate your skin before
shaving. There are so many new gels, creams and oils
specifically formulated to limit shaving irritations that
you might want to experiment.

Some people prefer using a shaving oil or gel. They say
these don't clog the follicles. Others say a cream works
better. Whatever you choose, the main objective is to use a
good lubricant that doesn't contain chemicals to irritate
the skin and helps the razor glide easily and smoothly
across the skin as you're shaving.

FACT: Working this shaving aid into your skin with a
circular motion will help raise the hairs, which will make
them more available for your razor's blade.

ALWAYS make sure you have a clean, sharp blade in your
razor before shaving.

FACT: A dull blade will pull and tear hairs instead of
cutting them cleanly. Think about what grass looks like
when it's cut with a dull blade ... You're only setting
yourself up for problems if you use a dull razor blade.

Shave with the skin in a relaxed condition. Don't stretch
the skin taut to get a closer shave.

FACT: Stretching the skin tight will cut the hairs too
short and greatly increase skin irritations leading to
ingrown hairs.

Shave slowly and carefully using short strokes.

FACT: People tend to press down harder and cause more
friction using long strokes, and more friction causes razor
burns. Shave with short strokes and only apply as much
pressure as absolutely necessary.

Shave in the direction hair grows.

Limit repeatedly shaving the same area.

Rinse the skin thoroughly with warm water, then with cold
water.

FACT: Rinsing your skin with cold water after shaving will
calm and close the follicles and generally tone your skin.

Now again, there are so many new creams, lotions and oils
specifically formulated to limit shaving irritations that
you might want to experiment with these as well.

Some people believe applying witch hazel, after shave or
another alcohol based product is best to further close
follicles and fight bacteria.

FACT: If you don't already know, alcohol dries out the skin
and skin lacking in moisture is a major cause of ingrown
hairs.

FACT: Tea Tree Oil is all natural and reputed to kill
bacteria, prevent infection AND moisturize your skin after
shaving.

FACT: There are so many excellent shaving devices available
today, you might even find yourself anticipating shaving
once again. And to be sure, there's nothing more satisfying
when it comes to face shaving than to feel silky smooth
afterward. Just ask your partner.

Do your own research to learn the facts about new shaving
tools that will give you the fabulous face every male
desires.
